The Twitter Awards 2011
The Twitter Awards are an online pre-recorded award show that was started to recognize twitters that don’t get the attention they deserve. We were started by a group of people who use twitter frequently, but the twitter staff does not work on the actual awards. Our team consists of 12 professionals who specialize in promotion, marketing, social networking, web design, video editing, graphic design, and more. We first set up 20 categories and have boxes on our website where you could write-in who you thought deserved each award. After over a week of nominations, our staff counted up the votes and came up with the 5 twitters who got the most write-in nominations in each category. They became the “Official Nominees”. After the official nominees were posted for a week, we opened up the voting polls to users of Twitter everywhere and purchased advertising to get people to know about the TTA’s and vote. Now that voting is over, our staff notified the winners and asked them to film acceptance speeches. We are now in the process of getting current popular celebrities, fan twitters, and/or regular twitters to announce categories. The reason we decided to do the awards this way is because we are introducing a new way to do an award show – online. Online is where most teens spend their time. Online is where Twitter is. We found it would be easier to directly contact celebrities and ask them to film on their own time.
